   "Maxine is more than a gifted artist who creates exquisite gems; she is also an unsurpassed advocate for the arts, and particular, the Heckscher Museum."

I would say I am an intuitive painter;
there have been many evolutions in my work but it is always about color.

I have been deeply inspired by trips to Australia, the Caribbean, Morocco, the Southwest
and Long Island where I live. Through memories of these places I construct essential,
abstracted landscapes - part observation, part imagination. My art works are, in a sense,
a meditation on these places; the sources I continually return to.

I work primarily with acrylic paint on a variety of surfaces - paper, canvas, wood panel and mylar,
each yielding unique results, a different tactile experience. Many pieces include elements of pastel
or oil crayon as well, redefining surfaces, creating layers.

Artists who have influenced me profoundly include
Mark Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn, Turner and Monet.

I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and a Masters Degree in Painting and Education (MA),
 both from Long Island University, CW Post Campus.

My professional life has included teaching art,
followed by twenty years as the Executive Director of Literacy Suffolk.

Making art is once again my main focus and I maintain a studio at The Studios at Suite Pieces,
1038 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, NY 11743.
Visits to the studio are welcome by appointment.
